Have you ever wished you had the skills to just pick up a crochet hook and hand craft a gorgeous gift or fabulous fashion accessory for yourself? Join us and Australian crochet designer, Deanne Ramsay, here on our alpaca farm in Murrumbateman for this fun and informative crochet workshop. The 3 hour Create @ Blackwattle session is designed to teach budding crocheters basic techniques and skills while making your very own Take Two beanie to take home.

Best suited to adventurous beginners and above, you will learn the essentials of:

- Magic Loops
- Crown shaping
- Increasing with post stitches
- How to conceal the beginning of a new round for a seamless fabric
- How to create an invisible finish

The Take Two beanie is a pattern you will learn to love, just as much as we do! During this workshop you will be working with our Blue Gum yarn base, of which 1 x 100 gram skein will be provided. Made of a beautiful blend of 55% super washed Blue Faced Leicester wool and 45% silk fibres, this range of 8ply DK weight yarns is a hardwearing option with a delicious silky sheen. 

The session also includes morning tea, coffee and an opportunity to join us after the session for a complimentary alpaca hand feeding experience (weather permitting). 

Class Requirements:

A completed Take Two beanie requires the following:

  • Crochet hooks: Please bring your favourite 4 & 4.5mm (G and G+) hooks or purchase from the farm shop.
  • A tapestry/yarn needle : Please bring yours or purchase from the farm shop.
  • A tape measure: Please bring yours or purchase from the farm shop.
  • A progress keeper / stitch marker: Please bring yours or purchase from the farm shop.
  • 8ply DK weight yarn: Blackwattle Blue Gum Yarn 1 x 100g skein is supplied (1 additional skein is required for the large adult size)

Summary of inclusions:

  • 3 hours guidance from a highly experienced crochet designer.
  • Intimate small group setting - plenty of opportunity for questions.
  • 1 x 100 gram skeins of our Blue Gum 8ply DK yarn (RRP value $36)*.
  • Printed Hard Copy of the Take Two Beanie pattern.
  • Morning tea and coffee.
  • A hand feeding experience with our Alpacas, after the session.

Yarn Selection:

*As mentioned, this workshop includes a skein of our beautiful hand dyed Blue Gum yarn to work with. You also have an optional extra to purchase a second skein if you plan on crocheting a larger sized beanie. Please let us know in the booking notes your preferred colourway, so we can ensure it is dyed and ball wound ready for you on the day. Colourways can be selected from those listed on the COLOURS page of our website.

About the tutor, Deanne Ramsay

Deanne has been crocheting for almost 40 years. She began self-publishing designs in 2010 (81 patterns published to date) and has been featured in publications such as Inside Crochet, Yarnologie and Moorit. Teaching since 2017, Deanne has held workshops at yarn stores such as Makerie (Gungahlin), Skein Sisters (Sydney) and Blackwattle Yarn (Murrumbateman) as well as the Yarn Creative Retreat (Barossa.)
